Before the test begins: I will spend approximately 30 minutes ensuring the applicant and the aircraft are eligible for the test. This is called the "Validation" process. The Common Errors are in red.
Pilot: I will verify your original Identification, Certificate, Medical and Knowledge Test report. They will be compared against eachother and IACRA. Please have these documents layed out for me to view.
IACRA: All information on IACRA must match your documents, hours fulfilled, and all is correct. Have a your paper copy as a back up in case we cannot access IACRA
the doctor's name generally has a space after the name, then a comma, followed by another space. However this is documented, it MUST match exactly in IACRA.
Logbook: This is the longest part of the validation process.
Totals: Ensure your pages are totaled, in pen, and signed.
Tabs: Please tab: cross country solos, tower solos, night cross country and night landings
Full Stops: if a full stop is required, it needs to be noted in the comments section
Endorsements: Instructors, if you are using the pre-printed endorsements in the logbook, these codes may not align, or don't exist anymore, when compared to current regulations!
Please reference the most current version of 61.65 and compare that to the current regulatory requirements (FARs) for the certificate.
Before the day of the checkride, send me pictures of your student's endorsements so we can ensure they are correct before stressing your student on their already stressful day!
Writtten: If the student took their written based on the completion of an online ground school, they must furnish
that certificate AND
as per 61.35(a)(1) an endorsement from an instructor stating that this training was received.
Aircraft: You will need to furnish the current maintenance logbooks. I will be ensuring all required inspections have been completed, are current, and all ADs have been met.
INSTRUCTORS: send me as much information as possible to ensure validation will be efficient.
student documents (ID, Cert, Medical, knowledge test)
aircraft documents (only the last inspections that show the aircraft is airworthy, as well as registration and airworthiness)
pictures of the last 2 student logbook pages (showing totals and signature)
endorsements (pictures for ALL endorsements/training that are required for the cert)
Fixing and adding endorsements, redoing IACRA and/or totalling logbooks during validation is a needless waste of time and frustrating for your student. This, in turn, causes us to start late and affects their overall performance. For this reason...
if I cannot validate your student within 30 minutes of our start time, we will reschedule.
