PAGE 1:  CHECKLIST FOR THE APPLICANT AND INSTRUCTOR

PAGE 2 AND BEYOND: RECORD OF TRAINING & REQUIRED ENDORSEMENTS 

RECORD OF TRAINING 

These are included because the ground training is frequently missed and sometimes the flight training topics are also missing. Recording them within the flight task and/or as a table ensures nothing is missed and validation is expedited.

STUDENT PILOT: 61.87(b), (c), and (d) with "d" being...

• • • (d) ... receive and log flight training

PRIVATE Part 61:  

• • • 61.105(a): ...receive and log ground training...or complete a home-study course...

      • • • table with all items, or, include the graduation certificate

ENDORSEMENTS

• PRIVATE PILOT: if your student is solo, they need an endorsement!  

  • • Private: you should have several endorsements, starting with TSA (as appropriate)

    • At an absolute minimum, there should be no less than 9 endorsements in the logbook.

      • TSA: US Citizens 

        • flight training providers must either include an endorsement, or, retain copies of the applicants documents for 5 years. (See CFR Title 49, Subtitle B, Chapter XII, Subchapter C, Part 1552.15) 

          • • Foreign Students must receive a letter from TSA permitting them to train and all documents and legal requirements must remain current, otherwise, training must cease. (See: Foreign Pilots)

      • (2) PRESOLO: 61.87(b) AND 61.87 (c)(1-2)

      • (1) SOLO: 61.87(n)  - solo permitted ONLY at the airport where training occurs occurs; landings are not permitted at any other airport, unless the student has an endorsement for that airport or 91.3 is enacted.  

      • (3) XC: ONE 61.93(c)(1)  AND TWO OF 61.93 (c)(2) & (3)

      • (3) FLIGHT TEST: § 61.35(a)(1), 61.103(d), and 61.105   AND   § 61.103(f), 61.107(b), and 61.109  AND     § 61.39(a)(6)(i) and (ii)  and (iii)

    • ADDITIONAL AS REQUIRED: 

      • 61.87(p): current 90 day AND at any airport your student is going solo at

        • • you fly your student to the checkride: they need 61.87(p) to solo "at and between F70 and HMT" : limitations: "checkride only"  

      • 61.93(c)(3): for any additional cross countries they do; not repeated; one time only!

        • • if they fly to F70 for the checkride 

            • 61.93(c)(3): to and from origination airport with landings at F70, AND

            • 61.87(p) to fly at/between F70 and HMT

              • • 61.93 does not permit flying at/between to practice, but 61.87(p) does

      • 61.93 (b): repeated solo XC to an airport located...

        • • (1): <25NM from the training airport

          • (2): < 50NM from the training airport

            • • Note that ANYTHING AT OR ABOVE 50NM is 61.93(c)(3) and a ONE TIME endorsement is required

      • 61.49: retesting after failure of a knowledge or practical (please specify!)

KEY TAKEAWAYS: 

1. If you let your student solo without the appropriate endorsement, you and your student are in violation of regulations and those flights cannot be logged.

INSTRUMENT AND COMMERCIAL: Each generally only need 3-4, which are the written and the ones required to take the test and/or retest. These can be found in AC 61.65 (as published). 

MOST COMMON ERROR ON ENDORSEMENTS:  Student pilot solo cross country.  

• Origination Airport to Origination Airport - applicant should begin and end at the same location

• Via: the route they took, to and from their origination airport; it is not the airports they are going to. It should reflect the points on their flight log

• with landings at: the airports listed that will meet the requirement; this does not include the origination airport where they train and are already endorsed.
